Getting Down at Double Crown

I’ve always considered Public my fallback restaurant when it comes to eating a nice meal below 14th street in Manhattan. The digs are attractive, the atmosphere’s chill, and the food is top notch. So when the brothers Farmerie opened a new place, Double Crown, I knew I had to check it out. The drinks were well made and the dishes consistently good, and, despite what some chowhounds have experienced, the service was spot-on.

Weeks later, I’m still thinking about the sweet, hot bites of litchi stuffed with braised pork and Thai chiles (like a mini banh mi) and the tender, fragrant, crispy drunken quail with cinnamon-tamarind sauce.
