Trend Alert: The Hot Beef Sundae

Who’s in the mood for two scoops of mashed potatoes, roast beef, gravy, cheese, and a cherry tomato on top? The hot beef sundae is sweeping the nation’s state fairs (pdf file) and farm shows. Serious Eats commenter SkinnyFatty breaks down the ingredients:

Mashers= Ice Cream

Gravy= Chocolate Sauce

Cherry Tomato= Cherry

Cheese= Sprinkles

Garlic Bread= Sponge cake on the bottom

Beef= ?/Awesome

That rundown pretty much also describes the construction. Taste wise it tastes exactly like cheap roast beef, potatoes and gravy taste like.

If you’re one of those people who don’t like their meat to touch their potatoes, this obviously isn’t for you, but would it be as gross if it were made with high-quality ingredients? It’s hard to say whether the sundaelike structure might entice picky kids to eat their beef. Am I the only one wondering if Jessica Seinfeld is kicking herself because she didn’t think of this first?
