My grandma gave me a few of her Royal Worcester egg coddlers made in the Evesham Pattern. If you’re not familiar with egg coddlers, they’re little ceramic pots with screw-on lids. You butter the interior, crack an egg into it, tighten the lid, and put it in a pan of boiling water until the egg is cooked to your desired consistency. When I use one, I like to throw a bit of chopped bacon or fresh herbs in before adding the egg. Coddlers are fun to eat out of, and they look good on the breakfast table.
Royal Worcester Evesham Egg Coddler, $22
Coddled eggs are a favourite birthday breakfast in my family! My four kids are now big hungery boys and so one just won't do it! I'm in the process of finding double coddlers for them all for Christmas! They love cheese, chopped green onion and tomato in theirs! Enjoy!
I picked up a couple of these from William Sonoma. Cheaply made Chinese knockoffs; the little ring on the lid broke off. Also, the interior where the metal meets the ceramic is razor sharp. I've cut my fingers on them twice. A great way to cook a soft boiled egg, but pay the extra and get a good English made coddler.
