A Horrible New Twist on “Beer and a Shot”

The Associated Press reports on what may be the most off-putting new food trend of the 2008 season: frosting shots.

Rather than Jim Beam or even Dirty Girl Scouts, people are—at least according to this article—slamming cake frosting, straight up.

For a small fee, customers get a dollop of their favorite frosting in a paper or plastic cup, about the size of a frozen yogurt sample.

BabyCakes NYC in Manhattan seems to have taken the trend to its classiest possible apex: $1.50 frosting shots served in vintage shot glasses.

Vegans take heart: You too can live the dream.

To make a long story short, the frosting on my cupcake was so sweet and intense that I felt like I was having a seizure before I was even half done with it. I should additionally contextualize this by saying that I used to eat straight sugar as a kid, and could (and did) regularly eat a pound of candy at a sitting. I LOVE sugar.   • I just think the stuff is so nastily sweet, all on its own. Whatever pops your top I guess.

  • Is the frosting shot just for people who want extra frosting for the cupcake? or is really for eating on it's own?

  • Why is this any worse than eating a piece of candy or fudge? It is sugar, butter and flavor.
