Oh to Be a Rock Star

Ah, the perks of rock-star fame: the groupies, the parties, and if you’re one of the lucky few, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will name a flavor after you. Elton John is the latest rocker to be so recognized with the release of Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road, named in honor of Elton finally playing a concert in Ben & Jerry’s home state, Vermont.

The Burlington-based ice cream company has created a series of rock-related flavors. Cherry Garcia pays tribute to the late but always great guitarist from the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia. Phish Food celebrates Vermont band Phish with chocolate fish, caramel, and marshmallow ribbons. The Dave Matthews Band got Magic Brownies, while Willie Nelson enjoys his Country Peach Cobbler.

Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road, as per Elton’s request, features chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle (think peanut brittle without the peanuts), and white chocolate chunks. The flavor is only available in Vermont scoop shops from July 18 to 25, and at the sold-out concert at Champlain Valley Expo. Proceeds will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Apparently Ben & Jerry’s likes Elton, but only for a week, in limited release.

  • I was thinking the same thing jtc...hahaha

  • Wow, I have a 420-reference deleted and BeedThereAteThat gets away with that. Nice job, filter nazis.

  • Hm. I think it'd be better without the white chocolate, and with some sort of peanut butter ribbon through instead of peanut butter cookie dough.

  • I'm surprised he didn't have some fudge packed in there.

  • Wow, that flavor sounds awful, and like a young child took chocolate ice cream and threw random sweets at it.

  • I think I'd like to try it,.......but I'm not likely to be in VT during the upcoming week. Elton John has a huge fan base, and his AIDS Foundation is one of the few focused on the disease that took so many, and continues to do so. He deserves a "little" more exposure, I believe.
