GuS Soda

A bottled beverage that is not a spirit is merely a potential mixer to me. Needless to say, I drink mostly water. However, during a recent warm spell (when water just
wasn’t sufficient), I spotted GuS Soda. The label told me all I needed to know: “Dry Meyer lemon, not too sweet.” As promised, it was more lemon than sugar, with a light effervescence reminiscent of sparkling wine. I have since tried other flavors, like the Extra Dry Ginger Ale, and have enjoyed them both on their own and with booze, such as in a Pimm’s Cup or a bowl of punch.

GuS Soda, about $1.50 for a 12-ounce bottle

  • Most of the GuS sodas work well with vodka and the ginger ale mixes quite well with rum.

  • I love this stuff. The pink grapefruit one is my favourite.

See also MASH soda, a new product from Boylan's that is apparently being tested out in certain markets. I can't find advertising for it anywhere, but sometimes I find it in delis in Brooklyn. It's light in flavour and sparkle--not quite a juice, not quite a soda. As you can see, I'm quite obsessed with it.
