“This Menu Has a Bigger Carbon Footprint Than the ‘88 Olympics”

Achewood, quite possibly the only comic in existence that actually wrestles with gastronomic affairs on a meaningful level, is going through a brilliant arc at the moment. One of the strip’s main characters is planning his wedding, with all the attendant complications (relatives, existential dread, registries, and so on).

Tuesday’s strip involved an epic blowup centered on the pretense (or ambitions, if you’d rather) of the wedding’s reception menu, featuring items such as an amuse gueule of “Shaved Tsukiji Market Hamachi ‘Ravioli’ with Quail Yolk and Chive-Tobiko Mousse.”

This in turn creates a taste/class/interpersonal conflict of hilarious proportions. If you’ve ever wrestled over a catering decision, this is the strip for you.
