La Brea Bakery Granola on Virgin America

These days I cling to anything that makes flying a little less painful. Virgin America is doing everything right so far, from the early arrival times to the hand-held remote control that’s attached to your armrest to the great selection of snacks you can buy. On a recent flight, the La Brea Bakery’s granola was worth every cent of the $7 I paid for it (Oprah agrees). Big clusters of dried fruit, nuts, and honey are not just good but filling, leaving you able to focus on the bad romantic comedy you’re about to watch on TV. And if anyone can identify the secret ingredient that makes it so delicious, please post it here! Otherwise I have to wait until my next flight to figure it out.

  • Not sure if it's the same flavors, but La Brea sells their granola via Whole Foods.

  • The recipe is in one of the cookbooks.

  • My guess is that it's the elusive "natural flavors." You can read the ingredient list at:

    http://www.labreabakery.com/productItem.aspx?p=185&c=35

"ROLLED OATS, HONEY, CASHEW NUTS, DRIED CRANBERRIES, SUNFLOWER OIL, SUGAR, ALMONDS, CORN OIL, RAISINS, WATER, PUMPKIN SEEDS, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, INVERT SUGAR, WHITE RYE FLAKES, WALNUTS, WHEAT BRAN, FLAX SEED, NATURAL FLAVORS."

    Or contact them and ask?
