HEY! Have you heard? SunChips' new compostable bag is LOUD. I SAID IT'S LOUD. A brief look at its ascension to Internet stardom:
2/22/2010: This guy gets a bag and tests it on a decibel meter. Conclusion: "Frickin' loud."
3/31/2010: Frito-Lay officially introduces the bag to the world at an event in Los Angeles.
5/6/2010: The chip bag is compared to a chain saw on YouTube.
6/5/2010: The Facebook group SORRY BUT I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THIS SUN CHIPS BAG has its first and only discussion thread created. Currently, over 30,000 people have "liked" it.
7/14/2010 Wasted Food writer Jonathan Bloom gets his hands on a bag and blogs about it: "My first reaction was: ‘Holy crap, this bag is loud.’ Then, I thought I was just being sensitive because my son was napping."
8/18/2010: The Wall Street Journal publishes over 800 words about the bag.
One more listen:
The bag is like nails on a chalkboard.....
I think that every airline should stock Sun Chips in these bags to sell for, oh, $4 to their starving passengers. This will blend well with the general hell that is air travel.
I don't mind the noise level so much (okay, it IS really loud), but the problem is the damn thing gets holes in it. Don't plan to store chips in it or anything -- if you don't eat all your Sun Chips in one sitting (ugh), then transfer them to a Ziploc or something. Kinda defeats the purpose of the whole earthfriendly, biodegradable bag...
