Make Your Own Ice Cream Treats
Hot weather calls for extreme frozen action
By Amy Wisniewski
Melty, drippy, sweet, and cold: It’s hard to underestimate the power of those words, especially when reminded of words like sweltering, sweaty, heat wave, and AC on the fritz. In other words:
Summer. Ice cream. Now. But ditch the bad supermarket ice cream sandwiches; ignore the seductive tinkle of the ice cream truck. Make your own treats, with the kids or for yourself (although save the Espresso Mud Pie for the adults, unless you want hypercaffeinated youths). The components of these traditional-with-a-frosty-twist recipes are simple, the rewards powerful.

Try chocolate chip cookies with Turkey Hill cherry ice cream. Amazing!
I tried crispy-pineapple-with-coconut-ice-cream on gourmandia.com last week and it was so good that I'll make another one this evening.
This is too good to be true...!! :S
I'll take one of each! Yumm!
@knitwit...... What if you softened a good quality vanilla ice cream and stirred in some nice Saigon cinnamon... If it gets too wet while incorporating chuck it back in the freezer for a bit to harden up!!! Voila!
There is a link for making the elements in the recipe- you can make your own cinnamon ice cream. I'm not sure I could find cinnamon ice cream either- even though I live in a city of almost a million with an Italian specialty grocery nearby- they have lots of gelatos, but I've never seen cinnamon.
I made Dorie Greenspan's chocolate ganache ice cream yesterday...now all I need to do is make some double chocolate cookies! I know what we will be having for dessert tonight.
Those snickerdoodle cookies just about made me lick my monitor. Now, where can I find cinnamon ice cream in my one-horse town??
