How to Remove the Seeds from a Chile Pod

Corinne Trang, author of Noodles Every Day, has figured out a way to get all of the pesky seeds out of a chile pod without damaging it: Roll the pod between your fingers, then push the seeds out, and the pod is ready to be sliced into perfect circles.

  • It does work with jalepenos and serranos, just rub against a cutting board or between your palms, the seeds come out easily, but if you don't want the heat of the ribs, you will still have to cut them open to remove.

  • Only works for thin, papery chiles like the Thai (bird) chile in the video.
Can't "roll" a serrano or other fleshy chile between one's fingers as demonstrated; the flesh will crack and the ribs and seeds are unaffected.
I guess I have to stick to twisting my boning knife in the chile and beware of flying seeds.
