  • Hahahahh this video is hilarious, and the comment section is even funnier! People really need to take the sicks out of their anuses and chill out. For those with any sense of humor, this video is great. If you do not appreciate Supertaster, no one is forcing you to watch the videos, so stop freaking out and being so literal.

  • a little late to the party, but this is the best supertaster video i've seen. cheers!

  • lol no kidding howlin, i giggled all the way through this
    i love food and this site is great but if people are uptight it ruins the fun sharing atmosphere.

    and anyone who takes medical advise from a guy called
    Mr.Supertaster should have someone else in charge of their health, really . . .

  • this is sad,not the video(lmao,,smells it like a fine wine)the sad part is people with no sense of humor,life shouldnt be that serious,this is obviously meant to be a tongue in cheek joke .i feel sorry for you people.medical facts...good lord.

  • Bismuth, the main ingredient in Pepto Bismol is a heavy metal. All you 'Hounds who are so obsessed about heavy metals, like mercury in minimal quantities in fish, are letting this pass.

    A healthy person does not have digestive problems. If you do, you should consult a Gastro-enterologist instead of self medicating.

    This new trend of presenting OTC remedies as foods is dangerous.

  • Never said I didn't enjoy the series. Just didn't want to encourage any more medicinal reviews when as you say, MrBigTime, there are plenty of brands on the food shelves to fill these pages for a good long while.

    Mr. Supertaster-you are appreciated!

  • I second Mr BigTime!

  • Contrary to the comments above, I love this series. Why hasn't there been any updates recently? Hopefully not due to lack of interest, because these are funny, informative, and entertaining videos. It can't be lack of material either, because all you have to do is walk into any grocery store, pick several different brands of the same type of food, eat and compare. If its lack of actor, let me...+READ

  • Obviously, you people are trying to be funny. So why did you delete my post about eating crow on April Fool's Day? Lame, lame, lame.

  • Truly, deeply unfunny and a disgrace to a very good site. Please stick to food, and leave the comedy to the professionals.

  • I laughed I cried it was better than Cats.

  • I can't believe I watched the whole thing.

  • I must agree with those that pointed out that this site is moderated like a Jr High Student Newspaper making this video a slap in the face to all of us that offer food and dining info only to see our posts disappear overnight...

    However it would appear James could have just make a 2 second video where he says, "Cherry Eggnog" and left it at that.

  • Coffee Talk With Linda Richman aka Mike Myers:

    "Pepto Bismol is neither a beverage or a food, discuss."

  • Soufi, do you really come to CHOW to read about the taste of Pepto?
    Now that's funny!

  • This a JOKE, people, you know, FUNNY!!!!!! I remember M. Norton's capsule on a very expensive whisky where he said he drank the stuff in a cheap cocktail or on ice, I'm not sure, and I laughed my head off! Heck, the whole concept of this column is hilarious: a professionnal taster evaluates weird stuff with a vocabulary fit for fancy wine tasters! As for medicine promotion and "confusing" the "large readership", I really hope that Chow will not, from now on, underestimate its readership's intelligence.-COLLAPSE

  • Added by the strict and recently discussed CH rules pertaining to posters offering or suggesting medical "expertise" to the community board discourse, this side of the site (CHOW) appears to follow another set of rules. Okay, how confusing is that to your large readership?

  • Chow might also want to review the federal regulations covering advertisements for OTC medications. There's a reason there are laws covering how drugs are advertised.

    A product review is often considered an advertisement or an endorsement. When the product is a medication, the rules for both tend to be very different than for foods and beverages.

    You don't "give the buy a break" if he's violating a whole raft of federal regulations that protect consumers.

    Is Chow on firm legal and regulatory footing here? My opinion is they are not. I'll be happy to apologize if I'm wrong...but based on my recent perusal of the FDA and FTC web sites, I'm sticking with my assertion that even if the Chow editors who approved this video are coloring inside the lines, they're still pretty damned stupid.-COLLAPSE

  • Look, guys, Pepto Bismol is a medication, not an after dinner cocktail. If Chow is going to let "Supertaster" review it, Chow needs to make sure readers understand medications have side effects: in this case, potentially some very severe ones.

    Look, guys, Pepto Bismol is a medication, not an after dinner cocktail. If Chow is going to let "Supertaster" review it, Chow needs to make sure readers understand medications have side effects: in this case, potentially some very severe ones.

    For example, Pepto Bismol contains salicylates, which means anyone allergic to aspirin may also have an allergic response to Pepto Bismol. Anaphylactic reactions are not just annoying. They kill an awful lot of people. You can't just drink PB on a regular basis if you have a tendency to get hives and have your throat swell up - preventing breathing - because you are allergic to things like aspirin, sulfa drugs, etc.

    And let's also note Pepto Bismol's label warning about Salicylism, to wit: "Salicylism has been reported in patients who chronically ingest bismuth subsalicylate [yep, that's what PB is, everyone - take a look at the label!]. Common complaints include vertigo, diminished hearing, lethargy, CNS dysfunction, confusion, tinnitus, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Patients may present with respiratory alkalosis and metabolic acidosis, azotemia, and hypoprothrombinemia and platelet dysfunction. The elderly may be particularly vulnerable to the development of salicylism."

    Hmmm....a "digestif" reminiscent of "cherry egg nog" that, incidentally, can send you to the emergency room or kill you.

    Exactly how stupid are the Chow editors? Pretty damned stupid, apparently. You don't review a liquid antacid on a food site as if it were a beverage, any more than you review Ex-Lax as if it were a candy bar.

    Oh, yeah. Awesome entertainment. Fer shur.

    It's enough to make you weep.-COLLAPSE

  • What would you rather see him taste?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Food. Mr. Norton provides plenty of entertainment to those of us following along. I hope he resumes food product comparisons and leaves the non food reviews to CHOW advertisers.
    Since a comment section is avail. to share your p.o.v. of Supertaster, I'm sure Mr. Norton appreciates the candor.
  • Yeah I say give the guy a break. The column is "supertaster" not super food or super beverage. If Mr. Norton wants to taste icky medicine and chow.com lets him post about , so be it. What would you rather see him taste?
  • If I were the "Supertaster" having to eat everything both good and bad and report back. I suspect I would need a cherry pepto or two in order to take the edge off the bad products encountered.
    Cut the guy a break.
  • gag.
  • Hate the videos. If I wanted TV I'd sit in front of the idiot box.
  • Very funny! Get over yourselves, people!
  • Considering the other boards, such as “Not About Food”, “Cookware”, “Site Talk” etc. that this was not about a specific food did not bother me a bit.
  • I'd have read it, but of all things that don't require video, this has got to be it.
  • To raphaelabelle: I can't speak for anyone else, but no, I wasn't curious or even remotely interested.
  • First, what a horrible idea for a column. Second, cherry Pepto has been on the market for years - so why does Norton keep calling it a new product?
  • Fantastic. Everyone needs to lighten up - was I really the only one curious about what pepto cherry tasted like?
  • Regular boards posts get hoicked if they border on making health/medicinal/"nutriceutical" recommendations...let alone shilling for a product, on the grounds of vetting/liability/conflict of interest, etc. This should be held to the same standard. Cay
  • Chow editors, please, the lowest common denominator schtick is getting old.
  • As if the recent run of columns on beverages and weird, only marginally food items wasn't bad enough, now we've moved on to something that's not food at all. I do usually click weekly to see what's been reviewed, but that's starting to seem like too much of a waste of time.
  • I loved it.
  • Seriously, this is not food.
  • No more of these pls.
