  • but then... isn't it not fresh? I thought all you foodies preached fresh.

  • oh yeah, the flaccid carrot. the still photo cracks me up!

  • The subject of dying produce has never been dealt with more humorously than in David Sedaris' story, "I'll Have What He's Wearing". It's in Me Talk Pretty One Day and like all his stories, is even funnier in audiobook version than in print.

  • Yeah, the potato has nothing to do with it. Put the vegetable you want to crisp in water, and it will absorb the water, and, ironically, crisp up.

  • Lol, how can you revive something that is already dead? Once you pull it out the ground it starts decomposing........ LOL @ people using magic tricks to eat vegetables, lol...........

  • Oh just give that poor carrot a little blue pill already.

  • I don't bother trying to crisp up celery or carrots. The limp ones go in the stock bag in the freezer.

  • This tip works for almost any vegetable. It's particularly miraculous on bell peppers.

  • And if you put coloring in the water for celery you'll get neato stripes!

  • Never tried the potato with the celery, but I don't think it's needed. I routinely trim the rib bottoms, halve the ribs crosswise, and stand them on end in a re-purposed tall lidded jar, with a half inch of water in the bottom. If the water is changed every few days, the celery keeps in the refrigerator for weeks.

  • And for limp celery, place separated ribs in a water bath with a sliced up potato. Something about starch transfer works here and the celery is as crisp as fresh in the morning. Go figure!

  • Put a wilted carrot in a glass of water and put it in the fridge overnight.
Good tip--I can't understand how my carrots, potatoes and onions go bad or start growing so quickly when I know that somehow people used to store them all winter long.
I summarized the tip in the first line, cause not we don't all always have time to go watch videos. Nice job saying what the other carrot tip's about!
