  • Southern Comfort is delicious - it's rich, creamy, and just really good. You shouldn't drink a whole carton, but you can try. Buy it.

Horizon eggnog sucks - they have good chocolate milk, though.

  • egg nog anything is great .. i love borden eggnog in the can.

  • Ditto on the requests for written articles. Cant view videos on my corporate computers. Would have liked to see what ST had to say here.

  • I'm a Marylander as far as eggnog is concerned. It does NOT contain heavy cream, the spices are minimized in favor of the booze, and it isn't really drinkable the day you make it (but it's wonderful 3 days later!).

  • So, as far as I can tell, each Starbucks makes their Eggnog Latte with the local brand of eggnog available. So the taste of each latte is going to vary with what brand of nog they use. I prefer the HEB light egg nog and I'm easily going to make my own better so that's what I do. But I'm not hating on Starbucks, I frequently stop there for a nice strong coffee. So, as far as I can tell, each Starbucks makes their Eggnog Latte with the local brand of eggnog available. So the taste of each latte is going to vary with what brand of nog they use. I prefer the HEB light egg nog and I'm easily going to make my own better so that's what I do. But I'm not hating on Starbucks, I frequently stop there for a nice strong coffee. It's pretty good and there aren't local coffee places open or on the way when I'm going into the office. I'm just gonna get a plain pikes with room for cream and then add my own nog from the stash I keep in the office fridge. Usually hidden in a nondescript thermos. Yummm. I'm out of nog right now so I can't indulge.-COLLAPSE

  • I agree with the folks calling for a written version (at least in addition to the video).

By the way, the recipe at epicurious.com for a "Kentucky Eggnog Spike" produces a quart of wonderful flavor for increasing the interest of any eggnog. You may need to experiment to get the right balance of liquors and other ingredients, but it's pleasant work.

  • A comment on the videos--
I can read CHOW at work off and on while awaiting digital papers from other people.
I can't watch a video... And I CANNOT listen to one!

  • why have a 'best of the mediocre', why not an article about the superior local dairy offerings across the country (or world? is eggnog enjoyed worldwide?), or at least in major markets? let's get those potenially hidden gems uncovered!

I'll submit: Doc Bernstein's on the Calif Central Coast, also Straus Family. Both supreme.

  • To the people who describe those who post legitimate complaints as "whining", please stop.

To the people responsible for the videos, post a written review as well please.

  • I like the videos too! I like having both.
    No whining here!

  • To the people who whine every time a video is posted: Please stop.

To the people who make the videos: Thanks! They're a great compliment to the column!

  • I'm with Hunicsz, danna, and drmoze on this. I can read, and have an attention span longer than one nanosecond.

  • Yes, why can't we just have an article? There is absolutely no reason for this to be a video. I won't watch them.

  • drmoze, I'm with you. I refuse to watch a video of things that don't need a visual.

  • For those in the New York area, the Ronnybrook Farms egg nog is delicious as well.

  • I know this has been brought up before, but would it be possible to at least also post a written review, for those of us who can read and would like to do so at our own pace? I really dislike sitting through videos that merely convey what could be presented just as easily--and more efficiently--by thw written word. Thx.

  • the President's Choice ain't bad at $1.99 a carton

  • If you have Promised Land products in your area, their eggnog is excellent! Made with all natural ingredients - you know, sugar, milk, cream, love. (Well maybe not "love," but there's quite a bit of "like" in there.)

  • Eggnog lattes from Starbucks vary with each one made, I've found.

DC area- The Starbucks in the Harris Teeter grocery in Rockville made the best Eggnog Latte yet!

  • My local supermarket had the Horizon Organic eggnog on sale for $2.29. It is REALLY good and just as James says, not too thick or sweet. It is also excellent mixed with dark rum.

  • the soco brand is made to drink with soco. it's just too thick alone.

  • Three of the four reviews are fine, but I don't understand something about the Starbucks segment. How can the latte be "warm and comforting" and then "offputting" and "slimy" at the same time?

  • Starbucks Eggnog Latte is downright delicious compared with the retched, vomitous mess that is the Gingerbread Latte.
