Shame. I think this section is down to the budget-bars. The best bar experience I had was with Bar Domby. This bar is hidden in the heart of Budapest and gave me the quality drink/people and atmosphere I'm used to. It is not famous for cheap beers or under aged hipsters sitting with their hubbies. But the selection of bottles on the glass shelves are outstanding. French biodynamic champagne? Yes....+READ

A very helpful listing, though A38 is not really the same sort of place as the others, more a live concert venue and restaurant, less a hangout, different audience by and large...and west-balkan (http://www.west-balkan.com/blog/) and Buddha Beach (on the Danube at Zsil utca) are other, unmentioned places with a similar milieu. Many of these places are open for less frenzied, more casual cafe life...+READ

Many of these places are open for less frenzied, more casual cafe life in the afternoons, and Szimpla Kert and some of the others also host films and art exhibitions and other cultural happenings...-COLLAPSE
