Beware of Metal Shucking Gloves

I do agree. A side towel is the best way to open an oyster and the use of a new haven oyster knife works better than the standard supermarket varieties.
You shouldn't have fresh oysters any where near heat any way. Be to be enjoyed raw!
Those metal gloves are for dopes. The one sure way to open oysters without hurting yourself is to place the oyster on a flat surface and hold it down with your palm on top. If you slip, you stab the flat surface, not your hand. I can open 5-8 oysters a minute this way and have never stabbed myself. If the oysters are hot you can use a dishtowel between you and the oyster.

why not tip the oyster shell and drain before opening? better, try the old fashion thick bar towel in the palm of the glove.
