Spice Racks

Spice Racks

Keep your cumin and your curry straight

If we’re to believe the mantra of the sci-fi classic Dune, he who controls the spice controls the universe. Do we exaggerate? Perhaps just a little. But after all, having control of your spices leads to better cooking, easier cleanup, and a happier you.

LE CREUSET SPICE JARS, $14.95 each

  • hope that helps, they are held in place by magnetic strips. And because the cupboards are normally closed, they are kept in the dark.

  • how about this, spice fans? And it is only half!!

It fits in my kitchen cabinet, and I can put all my spices in their see-thru plastic or glass containers (so I can tell at a glance if I'm running low on paprika), yet stays out of the light when I close my cabinet door. Since I have VERY limited counterspace in my kitchen, it's been extremely useful.-COLLAPSE

  • I second what val ann c said. I would like mine on the countertop, though. Just some stacked shelves, like the one with the weighted bottom. Anyone?

  • These are all very attractive.
But I want storage solutions that will easily display my 40 mis-matched bottles and packets. And I want it inside a cabinet. In most cases I want to keep the spices in their original packages. It's too much bother to transfer the contents to a new bottle. Plus I want to see who the supplier is -- for when I decide whether or not to replace the item.

I agree with the people above -- that spices and herbs should be kept in the dark, away from light and heat.-COLLAPSE

  • light degrades everything, so that would include your spices. but i'm not entirely against the transparent containers. i think it's necessary to make a quick call regarding what it is that you're holding in your hand. considering i've got 24 spice containers and no where near half the spices i want.... going through all those opaque ones would take forever!

just put the transparent containers in a separate box or drawer and they'll be fine and easy to use.

that olive oil nook though is the most useless thing ever. not all bottles are made the same size.-COLLAPSE

  • I don't think spice containers should be transparent. I was under the impression light made spices lose their zip faster than spice stored in opaque containers.

  • I just wish these racks held more containers. I guess I could just keep the spices I use most often in them.
