  • Couldn't clog the pipes. Using this technique the sugar has been redissolved in far to much water for that to happen. If the caramel in question is not a pure sugar type, but has had a great deal or butter or cream added, the technique mentioned above will not be as effective for dissolution without the addition of a little soap to the simmering solution and even then...

  • Rather than pour it down the drain, it would be a good way to use caramelized sugar, such as in sourdough starter (to add yeast nutrients along with some real Jim Se Qua) or as the liquid in a bread recipe. Homebrewers will have their own Great Ideas.

  • I'd be mildly concerned that the caramel might cool down too fast and clog the pipes. However, if it does, I've found that clearing a slow pipe can sometimes be as easy as pouring a tea kettles worth of boiling water down the drain.
