Salt and Pepper Shakers

Salt and Pepper Shakers

Season in style

By Michele Foley

Salt and pepper shakers are serious business for some. There are books and clubs devoted to collecting them. We just think they add personality to the table.

SALT & PLAYTIME, $8.95

These shakers taunt you to play with your food. Made from hand-finished maple.

MAGNITO, $9.50

It looks like a spinning top, but pulling apart the ends reveals one side is salt and the other is pepper. The holes of each are strategically placed to avoid any spice mixing.

Here are a couple of birds that won’t steal your food. Their tails are different colors so you can tell your salt from your pepper.

  • manraysky~ ... why didnt you just make the holes bigger
=S ....could have brought them to me, i woulda pimped it up for you

  • Houseguests just brought me the hugging pair last week (although ours are white and purple), they are very cute! Love the idea about turning them around and they are chasing each other, hilarious.

  • manraysky - I love that you gave useless salt and pepper shakers to Goodwill.

  • I have the Salt and Playtime "blocks" set. Or rather, I did before I gave it to Goodwill. The holes are way to small to let anything come out them. I kept them on the stove for a while because they look cute, but they are useless for their intended purpose.

  • Hehe.. I have the Hug ones, but they are blue and green and have slightly different head shapes. I think it's probably the same designer, though I'm not sure.

They have a dark, dual nature to them, as well. If you turn one of the figures away from the other, it appears as if one is chasing the other which is running away..

  • Cute, but I'll never give up my Perfex grinder

  • This slideshow definitely put a smile on my face - I'm hoping some of my friends move soon so I can give these as housewarming gifts! :o)
