How to Choose Ground Meat

Ray Venezia of Fairway in New York calls it chop meat; we call it ground beef. Semantics aside, red meat does not have to be red all the way through.

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS! I'm a meat cutter and we CONSTANTLY are trying to convince people that the chop meat we grind isn't spoiled. If just one of my customers sees this, how happy I will be.

  • Good tip! Thats a common question I get from our first time ground beef customers. Thanks ChowHound keep up the good work.

  • Hmmm. When I buy ground beef at the grocery, I think it's always been red on the outside and on the inside, no matter in what store I purchased it. But, I've slept since then so maybe I'm mis-remembering. I'll check it out this week when I do my shopping.
