  • Sweet Limes/Lemons have become one of my favorite Winter fruits. I only find them in farmers' market late December - early March. I love their fragrance and juice most of all but I haven't attempted anything with the zest, yet. Anyone have any ideas or recipes?

  • i've been getting kiwis in my local farm box the last two months, and i live in the bay area. mostly though, we get kale and spinach, radishes, lots of root veggies. finally i've gotten used to cooking with greens.

  • Mango, Banana, Kiwi, Avocado??? winter fruits? Not even where I live. Mango doesn't bloom for another month, and the fruit isn't ripe till may or june. These things are no more winter fruits than hot house strawberries or south american grapes. what a load of fertilizer.

  • Great info. Living in New England, I am always looking for quality winter produce. I like the recipes included. I will definitely try a few.

  • Unless you happen to live in Southern California or Florida or Texas, where all of those things are certainly local -- I have a lemon tree and a banana tree in my backyard and my neighbours have kiwi vines.

What about avocadoes, though? Those are certainly winter produce. Or Brussels sprouts?

  • This is a great list of produce - though if you're interested in eating locally, the citrus fruits, kiwi, and banana should really not be included in this list. (I'm not necessarily saying one should go entirely local - I certainly don't - I just felt that this list was a bit misleading.)
