• Entryway

The name of the bar is inlaid in metal on the sidewalk in swirly letters. The moniker refers to a Prohibition-era art movement that produced temperance propaganda posters. The illustrations depicted the road to hell, which was paved with bottles of booze, but maps to nearby speakeasies were hidden in the designs.

• Décor

Neo-Gothic crystal chandeliers, black granite tables, and suede banquettes.

• Specialties

The Cinder, a mix of Herradura reposado tequila, jalapeño-infused Herradura blanco tequila, Los Amantes joven mezcal, and fresh lime juice, with a dash of angostura bitters, served in a glass rimmed with smoked salt. Or the Fancy Free, a mix of Rittenhouse rye whiskey, Luxardo maraschino liqueur, angostura and orange bitters, with an orange twist that’s lit with a match at the table.

• Best Bottle on Shelf

Jalapeño-infused Herradura blanco tequila, made in-house.

  • Sick of all these pussy-ass hipster places... give me the Hemingway anyday

  • I hadn't realized the comments are linked to reviews of all six bars.
By THIS place I meant the NYC B Flat.

  • The entrance to THIS place looks so much like the entrance to "b-flat" in Tokyo, one of the most comfortable jazz clubs in the city.

I wonder if anyone in NYC is interested in a comment like this.

  • yawn

  • i tried to introduce a topic six months ago about great little known bars in Manhattan...and it was taken off and I got an email from Chow explaining that this was a food-centric site.....how is this article different from my topic. Thats just annoying

  • "making a comeback in New York City"
Yeah, last year. This is such old news.
