Winter 2006 Gift Guide

CHOW’s 2006 Holiday Gift Guide

Americans spent $31.7 billion buying stuff last December. How much of that went for smoothie makers, shrimp butlers, and joke barware unloaded at summer rummage sales is unknown.

To keep you from trafficking in this black market of holiday detritus, CHOW has assembled over 80 gifts that we certainly wouldn’t kick out from under the tree. We think we’ve got the best kitchen gadgets, coolest cookbooks, tastiest tidbits, most stunning tableware, and a few wild cards that we just like. And if any of them end up at a tag sale, let us know. We want to snag ‘em.

  • Have to vouch for the rice cooker. I spent a embarrassing amount of time debating whether or not I really needed a fuzzy logic--at 50-70 bucks extra--but I don't regret the splurge at all. It's also a steamer and a small slow-cooker, so there you go.

  • my head is going to inpload...thanks

  • Fly, there isn't a print magazine anymore. I hope you're not bald yet. :-) The magazine is just online.

  • Where in the heck do I purchase subscriptions to your magazine??? I have looked all over your website and the internet and cant find anything! I want to purchase gift subscriptions for several of my friends and am done pulling my hair out...can you help??

  • Why do you pick Staub over LeCreuset?

I think Silpats are great, but they are hard to give as a gift since you must know the exact size pans the recipient cooks with to make the gift helpful.
