Mario Batali Panini Grill

What about Babbo Batali isn’t perfection, except maybe his NASCAR cookbook? (Why, Mario?) His eponymous line of kitchen equipment includes this slick-looking, durable cast iron grill press. Just like the chef, this pan has serious heft, comes in orange, and makes a mighty fine sandwich.

  • I own this --- I tried making a grilled cheese sandwich with plain 'ol presliced sandwich bread in it once (with the press) and the bread got all soggy. Is there a secret - or is it just that you need to use thicker bread?

It's great without the grill press - I just haven't figured out how that part of it works quite yet.

  • I also own, and also love. It's supremely sturdy and extremely versatile. I also have his giant casserole, made by Staub, I believe.

  • I saw one in a kitchen shop recently and really really liked it, just not the price tag. Guess I'll have to hint about it for my birthday.

  • I have this pan...its so beautiful I want to keep it out on the counter. Its so heavy, you could mame an intruder. It smashes sandwiches divinely.
