I guess. The finest meat slicing establishements I've been to have
been Spanish bars serving tissue-thin slices of the most delicious
hams. Sliced by hand with a sharp knife. No need for some red-painted
fetish equipment. Seems like that would be worrying about something
other than the actual chow.

i do not agree nine grands is a lot for a Berkel slicer,it's a lot of money for THAT Berkel slicer.
An old Berkel is a piece of history and a pleasure for all your senses.
I do restore them in Italy and once you look at them when work is done it's a pleasure for your eye.
And when you buy an old Berkel you can be sure that you are not wasting your money,they keep their value.

Someone who spends over nine grand on a meat slicer either slices for a living, or has entirely run out of things on which to spend money.
I just got back from the Salone del Gusto show in Turin, Italy and people were elbowing each other out of the way to gawk at the Berkels. They certainly are beauteous!
