What Should I Think About Jolene Sugarbaker?

I don't know how to feel about Internet cooking instructor Jolene Sugarbaker, who's been posting cooking videos to YouTube for years now. On the one hand, this "Trailer Park Queen"—in reality she's a male comedian named Jason Saffer—has a lot of fans, and does have a winning way in front of the camera. And a theme song with a lot of head-nodding, which I find amusing.

On the other hand, that trailer park meme is so tired and witless. Haw haw, it's funny to laff at people who are poor/uneducated/Southern! On yet another hand (I've got three hands, you want to make something of it?), some of Jolene's recipes, like this one for spiced office microwave peanut brittle, are actually kind of clever. So I guess I'm still undecided. Input?

  • I've made a couple of her meals and they're actually quite good. Easy to recreate in the kitchen as well. She's also a quite funny at times, especially, I think, when she's trying not to be. I also like that she's family-friendly. I get so tired of comedians that have to resort to insults or toilet-humor to get a giggle. We need more Jolene Sugarbaker's in this world :-)

  • tired, witless, predictable, not funny.

  • The fake accent could be done a lot better. Still, this is yet another form of "ethno-bashing" and is ultimately snarky.
