Worse Than Lunchables?

Convenience rules at the modern supermarket. Hence McCormick's Recipe Inspirations, Lunchables, and frozen dinners.

And now soon there may be Candwiches? I'm not at all averse to quick, easy meals. In a pinch I've been known to eat canned tuna on bread (that's it ... really), but these "canned sandwiches" gross even me out.

  • Isn't it easier to plop a piece of cheese or quick smear of PB between two slices of bread? is anyone taking into account the fact you need to find a can opener first??? even a saltine cracker w/ pb would be better -- cheaper, easier, and less fake stuff

I'm not saying anyone would actively search one of these things out and relish the eating experience, but they might serve a purpose. Their website says that they are good camping, biking, outdoorsy food - which strikes me as a profoundly bad idea (you still have to hike the can back from wherever you are), but as a parent of a cranky 5 year old, who just went through a long, crosscountry plane trip, I think it might have a place. (Provided you could get it through security.) As a classroom teacher, I could totally see having several of these on hand in my desk. There are any number of times when teachers have to come up w/food for students on a moment's notice. (Not saying we SHOULD have to - just saying we do) and the PB&J sandwiches might be a lifesaver.

If that is the biggest compromise I have to make in the classroom this year, I'll be a lucky, happy teacher.-COLLAPSE
