Twinkie, Deconstructed and Photographed

Taking a page out of Twinkie Deconstructed, photographer Dwight Eschliman has put together a stark photo essay on the "37 Or So Ingredients" that make up a Twinkie.

From wheat flour to folic acid to glucose, monocalcium phosphate, and monoglyceride, Eschliman's series of simple, striking images brings a sense of visual drama to one of the country's most iconically pedestrian desserts.

  • I'm guessing the message I was supposed to take from that wasn't "My god, red 4D is beautiful, where can I get a shirt that color?"

I was actually sort of surprised at how normal those ingredients looked -- I guess I always imagine the scary chemicals in scary chemical derived foods look scary. Instead, they look pretty much like, you know, ingredients. The same things I bake with.
