If you’re a fan of antique diseases—and, really, who isn’t?—there’s some good news coming your way. The BBC reports that gout is making a comeback.
The condition, most typically associated with portly Victorian country gentlemen, is booming apparently thanks to sugary beverages.
Men who consume two or more sugary soft drinks a day have an 85% higher risk of gout compared with those who drink less than one a month, a study suggests.
Cases in the US have doubled in recent decades and it seems fructose, a type of sugar, may be to blame, the British Medical Journal study reports.
The disease, which typically manifests as swollen joints (mainly in lower limbs and most famously in one’s feet), occurs when uric acid crystallizes out of the blood and into the joints. More Mountain Dew = more fructose = more uric acid = more gout.
Also, I meant to mention that I have tried all of the prescription meds with no luck at all. I did find this product call Uricinex that works pretty well. It is all natural and seems to have helped me more than anything else I have found. You can get it at http://www.4uricinex.com/
Yes, I was always told it was meat consumption as well, specifically organ meats. It seems like they are talking about high fructose corn syrup which I think is bad in general and I'm sure it does not help (and most likely hurts) gout sufferers. I good source of info can be found at:
CDC Gout Info
we were always taught it was high meat consumption
