Blue Ocean FishPhone

The Blue Ocean Institute has launched the easiest system to make sure the fish you’re eating is sustainable. It’s similar to Seafood Watch, but instead of having to access the Web, all you have to do is use your cell phone to text the message “FISH” and the name of the fish in question to the number 30644. You’ll quickly get a response with the institute’s assessment: green if safe to eat, yellow if some problems exist, or red if there are significant problems. (Text “bluefin tuna” and you’ll find out that it is red, because of its high mercury levels and its inclusion on the endangered species list.) You can also download a copy of Blue Ocean’s Guide to Ocean Friendly Seafood to your PDA, for easy viewing anytime.
