The Celebration Roast came into my life incongruously enough at a launch party for Meatpaper magazine. Surrounded by tables piled high with salumi and pig heads, I was impressed to find a tasty vegan contribution from Field Roast, the “grain meat” artisans. Smaller than a Tofurkey but in the same price range, the Celebration Roast heats up easily, slices nicely, and has a large quantity of stuffing made from apples, butternut squash, and mushrooms to give it substance. It was such a hit at our Thanksgiving meal that all the meat-eaters asked to take some home.
Celebration Roast, available at Whole Foods for $5.70
My boyfriend is a vegan and have tried several no meat turkey surprises over the years. Let's just say he has yet to give up stir-fry for Thanksgiving dinner. However, I must say, this Celebration Roast does look wonderful and the stuffing sound delicious. I think might run down to the Whole Foods market and pick one up this weekend.
