Social Conservatives Target Extreme Ice-Cream Flavors

A raft of picketers engulfed San Francisco ice cream shop Humphry Slocombe early this week, protesting its sale of liquor-based ice cream to children. The shop has attained cult status for its funky, edgy flavors such as Secret Breakfast, containing bourbon and corn flakes, and Magnolia Thunderpussy beer ice cream.

"These flavors introduce small children to the taste of liquor," said Lionel Jahosifat, who carried a sign that read "Foodies Today, Alkies Tomorrow!" "So that by the time they hit grade school, they're ready for the hard stuff," Jahosifat continued. "And that's just not right."

Marlena Macintyre, another protester, pointed out that on this particular day, the shop's limited-edition sorbet was "Jesus Juice," containing wine and Coca-Cola. "Frankly, I think this ice cream flavor should be flat-out illegal," she said.

Humphry Slocombe did brisk business during and after the protest, upping its Twitter followers by roughly 500,000.

  • Hmmm... I'm thinking this is an excellent "April Fools" prank with a fine staged photo. OTOH, on the off chance it's authentic, it's really a shame those picketers don't have anything more serious to worry about!

  • This is the silliest thing I have ever heard! Alcohol flavored ice cream making children ready for the "hard stuff" by the time they hit grade school???? Did she really say that out loud?? There HAS to be better things to focus on when it comes to children than this! Like maybe all the homeless and starving. Just a thought. Happy Easter All. :)

  • I distribute a fabulous ice cream that's blended with wine and contains up to 5% alcohol (about the same as american beer). We absolutely promote 21 and over, especially to the restaurants and retailers who sell it. I wouldn't give a child alcohol - period. Just as I wouldn't let an 8 year old watch a violent movie. I wouldn't want to ban violent movies to protect my child from violence. I would...+READ

  • m;any babies get introduced to liquor at a very early age.
nothing like a drop of Jack on the fingertip, massaged on their gums, to quiet them down.

  • I hope this is April Fools. Fact is introducing alcohol to children responsibily, as they do in Europe, to be savored as part of a meal, makes them *less* likely to develop alcoholic tendencies.

  • Rock on guys, this is really great!

  • April Fools?

  • Haha, two scoops of "mother's ruin" please!
