Bundaberg?

Anyone who knows me knows that I can’t go long without ginger. Because I’m on a search for the perfect ginger beer, I even made some myself to hold me over till I find it. In the past, Barritt’s has been the brew of choice for one of my favorite libations, the Dark ’n’ Stormy, but that all changed when my friend switched it up with a bottle of Bundaberg Ginger Beer. It’s sweet and creamy, and full of natural ginger flavor. Sure, it’s from Australia—not the most traditional of places for ginger beer—but sometimes it’s nice to part with tradition and try something new. I also love the cool pull-top closure that makes opening the bottles all that more fun.

Bundaberg Ginger Beer, $2.25 per bottle

  • I'm close to choking on a bottle of Blenheim's right now....I love the feeling....It's the best I've had, because of the ginger ale flavor. Best ginger beer I've had is Old Jamaica, I believe made by D&G, when I was in the UK. I've also had Fentiman's, Schweppes (both in UK), and Goya, Stewart's (both in Baltimore), Reed's, Barritt's, Regatta, Cock and Bull, (all in Cincinnati [Party Source in...+READ

If I can find the Blenheim's Ginger Beer, my eternal search for the perfect ginger beer may be complete....-COLLAPSE

  • Bundaberg is very sweet, but is excellent with the juice of half a lemon or lime.

    Spiciniess:

Blenheims is incredibly spicy and dominates the Dark and Stormy. Cock and Bull is good as is Reed's, but Reed's Extra is decently spicy as well.

Gosling's is a very, very smooth and sugary rum, so if you mix with Bundaberg which has a nice mellow ginger flavor, I would go with half a lemon or lime. The sugar is cut and the mildness of the ginger is brightened by the citrus. Blenheim's is an interesting product, but completely changes the drink.-COLLAPSE

  • I have to say that i totally disagree! Bundaberg just tastes like sugar. It doesn't have a true ginger taste like my favouroite, Saxby's. I've even tested people with a glass of both saxby's and bundaberg without them knowing which was which and each and everyone thought that saxby's was better. It is so good. Try it!

  • Stumbled on the Bunderberg on a trip to New Zealand a few years back and love it. Blenheim is spicier in a 'it's burning' way, more so if you get the spicy version. Cock and Bull makes hands down the bet Dark and Stormy i've ever had - but I can't find it here in North Carolina.

  • has anyone ever tried "Cock and Bull' ginger beer? its got an INTENSE ginger flavor. pretty good, but the ginger flavor is very strong - not many people like it.... me, i like it just fine

  • I haven't found Bundaberg for sale in the NYC area, but you can mail order it from stores based in the States:
    http://www.everythingaustralian.com/drinks.html (regular and cordial form)
    http://www.simplyoz.com/products/aussie_food (regular)
Unfortunately, it comes in glass bottles, so it's expensive to ship, but when these places have sales, you can sometimes find pretty good prices.

  • Anyone knows where these beers can be found in NYC area?

  • I wish I could get Blenheims - it's only available mail order. And the HOT is so good!!!!

  • I used to drink Barrit's when I could find it, though recently I've seen something called Regatta Ginger Beer, which tastes pretty similar. Anyone know if the two are related/the same with different labels?

  • I've always been a fan of Barritt's, but I'll try someting new. Any recommendations as to local NYC merchants carrying Blundaberg, or must I order a few cases directly from Australia?

  • Saxby's Ginger beer is pretty good in Australia too. Bundaberg are more famous for their rum than Ginger beer but both work well together. The rum is also good with Dry and Lime.

  • Bundaberg will do in a pinch, but Blenheim is hands down the best ginger ale known in the United States. It's available in regular, diet and hot. Yes, I said hot ginger ale and no, I don't mean temperature. Sometimes when you drink it it hurts. Unfortunately it is damn near impossible to find outside of South Carolina, but do everything you can to get your paws on the stuff....+READ

  • We LOVE Bundaberg Ginger beer. It's great with rum, too. You can even by pre-mixed cans of Bundy and Rum in Australia - pretty yummy!
