Natalie, the star of this instructional YouTube video I Rob Food Buffets, says that pilfering from all-you-can-eat buffets isn't really thievery: "If you think about it, we're not really stealing their food, we're just, like, eating it at a different time and location." Her video is a bit slow to start, but at 1:46 she begins handing down some excellent tips, such as coming armed with resealable bags and storage containers, and sleight-of-hand techniques for emptying food into them.
Sweet mother of...
This is just tacky. I suppose after raiding the all you can eat buffet and stuffing your pockets, you can head home and watch Jerry Springer and Jersey Shore, then enjoy an evening of rippnig through a 30 pack of Natural Light. Ugh.

And CHOW? For shame. I expect better from you guys. You can't possibly expect to have a video like this on your site and then be taken seriously for discussions of nice restaurants and the like. Take a stand against people engaging in such behavior.-COLLAPSE
I don't think that anyone can argue the fact that there are more pressing issues out there then stealing from buffets. However there are some valid points here that should not be over looked just because other issues are of greater scope or more urgency.
I'm pretty sure there are indeed worse things in the world than stealing from buffets. I wouldn't do it, but I don't particularly care. Maybe we can focus some of our outrage on, say, freeing political prisoners (amnesty.org)? Or feeding stranded Haitians (wfp.org). Or maybe some of you want to donate to Indian casinos to make up for the food being stolen . . .
I'm with HillJ on this one. Looking back on all the posts the mods have bleeped because of their possibly offensive nature, unmannerly orientation or perceived vested interest, I find that a video lesson on premeditated theft has met a new low.
Let's see how long they allow this to stay up.

At 2:42 I shut it off. Okay, I understand that YouTube is filled with videos just like this; that finding an audience for bad behavior is just one of life's givens but why oh why give this young lady an audience on CHOW. Ridiculous.
STEALING, pure and simple, not to mention gross. One apple or banana doesn't strike me as a huge issue, I wouldn't even hide that, but plopping gobs of prepared food into your handbag so you can have a meal from the leftovers tomorrow is just disgusting and wrong. Shame on you, little girl!
As a professional caterer, I'm appalled that she's admitted this.
It's stealing and screwing up my buffet for actual paying customers.
What does she do for a living? I'd like to put the same disdain and low value on the work she does.
Doesn't she realize that someone paid for the food that she hasn't? She's effecting the profitability of the establishment, effecting the employees too.

She'll be one of those people who complain when the place goes out of business and she doesn't understand why.-COLLAPSE
It's stealing.
At the end of the day that food WILL be paid for by the diners collectively. If some people like to amuse themselves with pilfering games; I suppose there isn't much to be done about it. However they are so very childish to believe that they're getting away with something here. Do the math. When the buffet prices rise; well, you know why. You're paying for that stuff you got for 'free'.
I used to manage a buffet in an Indian casino in the Seattle area. We would constantly catch older patrons trying to sneak off with zip lock bags filled with buffet items. I would have to tell them that if we caught them doing it again that they would be banned from the casino. Often they would counter that they didn't think they were able to eat $xx.xx worth of food so they were just getting...+READ

If you don't think the bufet pricing is fair for your appetite don't eat there and don't put the employees in the uncomfortable position of having to deal with you when you get caught stealing.-COLLAPSE
"excellent tips"? Not excellent, not funny, not cool. Employing sleight-of-hand means knowing it's not cool to do it.
Theft is what it is. Sad to see it reposted/encouraged here.
Yeah, I have to admit I don't find that funny or cool at all. There's something to be said for honor systems—and something to be concerned about insofar as Americans seem ever determined to flout them.
If everybody did this, it would put all buffets out of business. It's not fair to the other patrons, and especially not fair to the restaurant owner, who expects to be feeding you for one meal, not the whole bleeding week.

I get that there's an average factored into buffet prices - that one patron might eat four heaping plates of expensive items, and the next might just have one plate of salad, but stealing is not something the owner can factor into his prices. When costs start to go up due to this kind of behaviour, then prices go up for everybody, not just the degenerate who is eating day-old buffet chicken happily at home.
I realize that I sound like a curmudgeon, and the video WAS humourous, but if she knew the restaurant owner personally would she steal from him?
Would she eat at a friend's house and then raid the pantry in secret for dry goods and cans of soup? It was a dinner invitation, she just ate some of the dinner at a different time and location...-COLLAPSE
like ike04, my buffet thefts/takeouts are limited to a piece of portable item (whole fruit, finger-friendly pastry, wrapped ice cream bar) - but hilarious and unsurprised that there are folks who go for more! The dumping the whole plate's worth into a bag/tupperware is funny FTW.
But it does make me wonder if any buffets have (or tried) a bag inspection upon exit policy...
That is too funny, and yes I do steal from buffets. Usually when I am traveling I will take an apple or banana or something else that travels well as a snack for later. I've never tried to lift a chaffing dish of Butter Chicken or a Barron of Beef.
