One of the tastiest salts available is English-made Maldon. The texture is flaky, unlike that of fleur de sel, and it imparts a wonderful taste to everything it touches. “I’m so addicted I carry a bag of it in my purse everywhere I go,” says torta basilica—and at least two other Chowhounds admit to carting around Maldon in their purses, too. It’s excellent mixed into soft, sweet butter and spread onto the best bread you can find. Expect to pay between $6 and $8 a bag. It’s worth it.
