Eau de Fromage

I like cheese as much as the next gal. I even have a soft spot in my heart for the pungent British blue cheese Stilton. But never has it occurred to me that I should want to smell like a round of cheese. I may be in the minority here—and the Stilton Cheesemakers’ Association is hoping I am, for it is in the process of launching a Stilton-inspired perfume. Get ready for Eau de Stilton.

I first heard about this cheesy perfume last year when the association sent out a press release, but this week I saw the bottle for the first time in a write-up on YumSugar. It’s a clear, oval-shaped number decorated with faint veins of blue, just like the cheese. It’s pretty, though it still seems like something I’d rather have in my kitchen cupboard than on my dressing table.

As for how it smells, this is the official word, though I am not entirely sure I believe it:

Blue Stilton cheese has a very distinctive, mellow aroma and our perfumier was able to capture the key essence of that scent and recreate it in what is an unusual but highly wearable perfume.

Does that mean that if you wear it you’ll go well with port?
