Green Bean Casserole Without the Cans

Behind the much-maligned, gloppy amalgam of processed foods known as green bean casserole lies a terrific concept: tender green beans napped with a creamy mushroom sauce, covered with a crunchy, onion-y topping, and baked until bubbly. With just a bit more effort, it's easy to do the dish justice by making it from scratch.
