Chowhound Find: Prime Pastrami Lineup at Rhea’s in SF

The quirky, creative sandwiches at Rhea's Deli in SF's Mission District are a destination all by themselves. A local Chowhound recently noticed four new sandwiches featuring locally cured, grass-fed navel pastrami that offer new reasons to head to Valencia Street.

Nancy Berry says the sandwiches range from the straightforward "20th Street" with melted Swiss and yellow mustard, to the Dionysian "The Buster Posey #28": navel pastrami wrapped in what she calls "another" pastrami and coated with Kansas City–style barbecue sauce. But one of the best sandwiches she's ever eaten is "The Freak #55," named for San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum. It's a French roll packed with pastrami, melted horseradish-chive cheddar, pickled red onions, arugula, aioli, and kimchi prepared by the owner's mom (Chowhounds praised that back in 2011).
