There are enough southland farmers’ markets to visit a different one every day of the week. And on Chowhound recently, selfportrait93 pointed out that the lines at markets' prepared-food stalls are often just as long as the ones to buy produce from the most popular farms. That doesn't prevent Chowhounds from patiently queuing up for these prime eats:
• At the Wednesday Northridge market, one of the biggest queues is for freshly popped kettle corn and roasted corn on the cob straight from the grill. Be patient.
• Fans of Filipino balut (boiled fetal duck eggs) get their fix from the duck seller at the Friday Eagle Rock market. Be warned, he sells out early.
• Brisket (pictured) from the Bigmista's Barbecue stand is the thing at the Thursday Century City market. (Check out the Bigmista site for other weekly locations.)
• Hawaiian Chicken is the draw at the Downtown LA Farmers' Market on Fridays in Bank of America Plaza. Be sure to get the special sauce.
• For hot Belgian waffles and frites, it's the Liege Waffle Company at the Sunday Mar Vista Certified Farmers' Market.
• Seek out mobile vendor Gourmet Grill Masters for juicy, crisp-skinned rotisserie chicken at multiple weekly markets. Get the killer garlic sauce and a side of potatoes (they’re cooked in the chicken drippings).
