Chowhound Find: Library at the Public’s Tour-de-Force Burger

The Public Theater emerged last fall after a $40 million makeover and so did its dining options, which now include The Library at the Public (pictured), a handsomely appointed restaurant and lounge on the mezzanine of the landmark building that once housed New York's first public library. One standout on the short menu of drink-friendly dishes, overseen by a chef from Locanda Verde, is the Joe's Burger, named for theater founder Joseph Papp.

Made with bacon, cheddar, and caramelized onion, it's beefy, juicy, cooked precisely to order, and "one of the better burgers I've had in NYC," Blumie reports on Chowhound. For those attending shows at the affiliated Joe's Pub, Blumie adds, some of The Library's menu (including delicious shrimp tacos with salsa verde) is served there, too.
