It’s Peak Cranberry Season—Get Cooking

Fresh cranberries are in peak season, available for a wide range of sweet and savory dishes. They also freeze exceptionally well—Chowhound weezieduzzit recommends stocking up now so you can enjoy cranberries well into the New Year.

Cranberry dishes for the holidays and beyond include CHOW's Cranberry-Orange Quick Bread (pictured). Missy likes this cranberry-apple cobbler (with 2 tablespoons of frozen orange juice concentrate added to the fruit). Lattice-topped Cape Cod October pie—with a filling of cranberries, apples, raisins, and walnuts—is a holiday tradition for Cheez62.

Then there are desserts that taste purely of the fruit, like cranberry sorbet, or sugared cranberries (they pop in your mouth and are "pretty and delicious," cookingandbaking says).

On the savory side, breakfastfan loves these slow-cooker pork ribs with cranberries, and gimlis1mum recommends cranberry-port pot roast. A cranberry and onion compote is great with cold meats, Harters says. For a side dish, try red cabbage with cranberries, a twist on the typical sweet-and-sour braise.
