When the iconic Italian restaurant Drago closed its doors earlier this year, Chowhounds wondered what would take over the space on Wilshire Boulevard. In a recent discussion, lil mikey was happy to report that the new tenant, Ushuaia Argentinean Steakhouse, has done the site justice by serving solid South American food in a modernized dining room that incorporates more hardwood and exposed brick.
The empanadas are on point and the skirt steak rave-worthy, says Ciao Bob, who visited recently for lunch. The truly hungry might consider the Napolitano, a messy and monstrous beef Milanese sandwich with great flavor. lil mikey tried the Lomito Completo and says that the sandwich exceeded expectations with its mix of textures (perfectly cooked steak, a creamy fried egg, crisp lettuce), plus tomato, prosciutto, and roasted peppers on a fresh ciabatta bun. The Estancia salad is perfect for lunchtime too, well-dressed and topped with a juicy steak.
