Early Report: Barraca in the West Village

Chef Jesús Nuñez won fans with his innovative Spanish cooking at the now-closed Gastroarte (previously called Graffit) on the Upper West Side. Now he's landed in the West Village at Barraca, opened in September by the owner of downtown Latin spots Rayuela and Macondo.

Weighing in on Chowhound, rrems says paellas are the stars on Barraca's menu, which is more traditional than Gastroarte's. Paella negra (pictured), with seafood and artichoke in squid ink–infused rice, is perfectly made and generously portioned. "This is a great addition to the neighborhood and is worth a trip from elsewhere," rrems adds.
