It’s the rule of diminishing returns: Two things that are awesome on their own can become gross when combined. Take Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, bacon and sex lubricant, cocktails and chicken ‘n’ waffles. That’s right: Next month, Italian-style syrup maker Torani is launching a new savory flavor, Chicken ‘N Waffles. The company website says it “adds that ‘is it chicken or is it waffles’ allure to cocktails, lattes, sauces, and any deserving recipe.”
Of course, it’s arguable whether any recipe deserves to be drenched with imitation chicken flavor, but one thing is indisputable: The label image of craggy, Cheeto-colored chicken legs superimposed on a couple of waffles is an automatic party ice-breaker. But we’re guessing that if you’re already skeptical, the cocktail recipes Torani has developed for the syrup—the Harlem Jazz Smash (it calls for peaches and Jack Daniel's) and the Sticky Southern Old Fashioned—won’t change your mind. What's unclear is how the syrup will taste poured over actual chicken and waffles.
Please don’t make us find out.
