Is it possible to make better-tasting versions of commercial snack-food flavors like ranch and nacho cheese? With March Madness looming, the CHOW.com Test Kitchen took the challenge. After a bit of testing, we found it surprisingly easy to make three "flavored powders"—ranch, nacho cheese (read our test kitchen notes about making the nacho cheese powder here), and Creole shrimp—using real ingredients, no chemical flavorings allowed. We tossed them with nuts, but you can sprinkle them on a wide range of game-day snacks, from popcorn to chips.
