Overheard on the San Francisco Bay Area Board

"I think the squid was my favorite—perfectly cooked, great tender texture, and the filling was so flavorful. The lardo was rosemary scented, and meltingly delicious, served under a tangle of frisée. The sardine was piquant, topped with potato slices and just a little too little salsa verde for my taste. The polpette was nice and springy, with a great tomato-ey sauce. It was my first time trying farotto—the dish had fantastic texture and deep mushroom flavors." – mariacarmen on lunch at Barbacco

"The bread’s a bit on the chewy side but once heated, the crust crisped up. Fresh and nicely balanced pickled veggies, jalapeño slices, bright cilantro, cukes, and the blessed avocado enriched with voluptuous Vietnamese 'butter,' this was a fully packed sandwich." – Melanie Wong on the veggie banh mi at Café Sorriso in San Leandro

"From what I've seen, the Ferry Building serves only a smaller-sized version of this (no walnuts) for just under $3/loaf. You can get a bigger edition (with or without walnuts) at the Berkeley location. But ... it's more like monkey bread than a traditional roll. It is very cinnamon-y and very good." – josquared on Acme's cinnamon-currant loaf
