At Westville, an Unbeatable Chicken Reuben

Westville makes a chicken reuben that you shouldn’t miss, insists jungirl. It’s grilled sliced chicken, sauerkraut, bacon, cheddar, avocado, pickles, and Thousand Island dressing on buttery grilled rye. Ten dollars, served only at lunch.

Westville is good. Actually, to be bonest, it's recently stumbled into 'OK', really. When it first opened (West Village branch), they were perfectionists in that non-studied way that makes a neighborhood restaurant not only endearing but also indispensable. Then , slowly, the quality started slipping: it started with the espresso/cappp drinks; they had servers who really cared about the difference between a latte and a cappuccino- now, 'who cares?' Then they switched from the delicious, smooth italian Danesi espresso to some harsh, generic overroasted bean. Market sides overcooked. Turkey burgers are dry and infused with enough garlic to send Tony Soprano to the ER. Soups are as salty as Campbell's. Awful. Sloppy. What a disappointment.

Before New Year's, the West Vilage original closed for a so-called refurbishing. The sign said, See you on Jan. 2. Now, it reads, Maybe Jan. 16. I'm hearing from neighbors, it's more like the rent was hiked to stratosphere, so-- Adios, West Village.

Will miss their good old days...-COLLAPSE
