Overheard on the San Francisco Bay Area Board

“On Thursdays, one of the daily specials at Chef Hung is beef tongue. It's part of their Chinese American diner menu ... very old school: boiled(?) until very tender and adorned with a brown sauce. Four generous slices served with a big scoop of rice and boiled cabbage—$7.95 IIRC. Free bowl of house soup (lotus root/peanut/pork bones), garlic toast and a small portion of red jello served with a properly chilled spoon.” – gordon wing

“Buddha Brand is distributed by Sun Lee from ... California, look in Southeast Asian markets in Oaktown, not Chinese ones. Look at the ones catering to the Vietnamese Chinese/Laotian populace not the ones serving Hong Kong/Cantonese/Taiwanese." – shanghaikid on finding Buddha brand jasmine rice

"Handmade paprikas, and pickled everything aside, I found execution and service of the new menu a complete train wreck ... I don't get the sense that the chef is deconstructing dishes he's mastered, instead he's doing some ill conceived fusion concept that is still unrealized and possibly beyond his abilities." – sugartoof protesting the love-in for Bar Tartine’s new Eastern European–influenced menu
