"The sound a lobster makes is not a 'shriek' but rather the sound of gasses escaping from their shells in hot water. Lobsters evolved as underwater creatures and don't make vocalizations, nor do they have the biological apparatuses to do so. Lobsters have primitive nervous systems and it is debatable whether they are capable of feeling what we might recognize as pain. The current scientific thinking is that they probably do in a sense (as evidenced by avoidance behavior after some negative stimuli), but the matter is still very much up for debate." - cowboyardee
