Jackson Heights Still Hot for Indian Food?

Is this heresy? Marie07960 asks if Jackson Heights is still the go-to spot for Indian, and if so what should she try, and hounds are sending her away from the Heights and toward Floral Park, Glen Oaks, and Queens Village. queenseats, missmasala, and CitySpoonful have all directed her elsewhere. CitySpoonful goes so far as to write, "Avoid Jackson Diner at all costs!!!" Whoa! Polecat is one of the lone dissenters, pointing out that Indian restaurant Deccan Kebab remains an excellent reason to visit the neighborhood.

What do you think? Has Jackson Heights lost its luster?

  • What about Curry Hill? The restaurants I dine in (it's close to my office) are superb, and not expensive at all. Lunch buffets at Channai Gardens and Tiffen Wallah, both vegetarian, are fabulous deals. The meat and veg lunch at Copper Chimney is great, but their dinner is even better, with a wonderful menu. And Dhaaba is fabulous anytime.

Avoid Jackson Diner for the lunch buffet which was never that good. I've been going there on and off since I was a kid and they served burgers and milkshakes. Since it went Indian and later moved I've noticed no decline in food quality, only an increase in the number of Manhattanoids and tourists coming. The only exceptions are 1) the lunch buffet which was never that good and in fact was introduced later than most of the other restaurants around and 2) for a period in the 1990s, it seemed quality dropped off.-COLLAPSE
